Colombian/American Author • The Genie in the Bottle

Pilar Ortiz is a Global Communications Expert, Executive Coach, Training and Development Master Specialist, Keynote Speaker and Author. Her high profile and successful career over a decade anchoring and directing global news for the largest Spanish-content TV provider in the United States, Noticias Univision in Tampa, Florida, a position she maintained for eleven years. In addition to Univision, she has worked as a reporter for RCN TV, Caracol TV, and CBS TeleNoticias. She has interviewed multiple politicians and celebrities including: Barack Obama, John McCain, Andrés Pastrana, Hugo Chávez, Shakira, Carlos Vives, Celia Cruz, Tito Nieves and Ricky Martin.
Pilar’s background in News Media and Journalism aided her to utilize those skills and develop The Speak Easy System and other programs such as Influence Accelerator, Project Communicate, Elite VIP Coaching and Think Up Mastermind. These powerful and impactful development tools have been used to coach and instruct leaders world-wide on the art of Effective Communication.
In 2013, she chaired the Hispanic Professional Women’s Association of Tampa and in 2015 she became the first Anchor of Hispanic descent for the English podcast, Voices of Experience, produced by the U.S. National Speakers Association (NSA). Her first book publication, Reinventing Yourself, Creating your own Path to Success has been widely circulated and received rave reviews and accolades. Her latest book, The Genie in the Bottle, is soon to be translated into English and will be available in early 2020. The Hispanic Heritage Organization of Tampa named her ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2014 and she received the prestigious Simon Bolivar National Journalism Award (Colombia 1997).

Susan Richbourg Parker grew up in St. Augustine, surrounded by the vestiges of centuries of history and today specializes in the Spanish presence in the Southeast. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in colonial history from the University of Florida and a B. A. in Spanish from Florida State University. She taught at the University of Florida, the University of South Florida, and the University of North Florida. She was the executive director of the Saint Augustine Historical Society and was a historian and later a preservation consultant with the Florida Department of State. Currently she free lances as a researcher, writer, editor, and historical projects consultant. She served as the director of research for the PBS documentary about colonial St. Augustine, "Secrets of Spanish La Florida" (Secrets of the Dead series).
Her most recent publication is the Oldest City: The History of Saint Augustine (2019). She has also written scripts for three walking tours of St. Augustine for a self-guided app on the website of the Florida Humanities Council website. She was awarded the Rossetter Award for Outstanding Woman in Florida History from the Florida Historical Society.
Nicolas Tovar is one of the most celebrated composers, producers and contemporary singers in the Latin Music Industry. For more than 11 years he was a fundamental part of Emilio Estefan’s select writing team, delivering unforgettable hits that are now sung by millions of people around the world.
Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, this singer / songwriter became internationally known for hits like “Amor Del Bueno”, “Dime Que Sí” and “Eva Maria”; which made him a “prophet in his own land” and opened the doors to explore other areas of artistic expression.
He has an impressive list of compositions, where Ricky Martin, Chayanne, Alejandro Fernandez, Jon Secada, Cristian Castro, Carlos Ponce, Banda El Recodo, Jacy Velasquez, Ainhoa, India and Paulina Rubio, are only a few names among the many successful talents, that have recorded his songs and/or co-written chart-topping hits.
His achievements have been recognized several times by organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, Billboard and the prestigious Latin Grammy, which he has won on 5 occasions.
Widely recognized in the United States for his performance in the reality show “Protagonistas de la Música”, as a strict judge and Talent Director, Nicolas gained the hearts and respect of the television audience.
LUIS CARLOS HUECK
Luis Carlos Hueck is a successful Film director from Venezuela. He studied film at UCLA, He wrote and directed PAPITA MANI TOSTON that broke all the box office records and became the most seen movie in the all cinema history in Venezuela. He is doing now the sequel of that movie PAPITA 2 and HAVE YOUR LIFE BACK that is based in his own life.
Karla Pagliarone has a degree in International Studies (2011) from the Central University of Venezuela. In 2011, she decided to start two years of Comprehensive Studies in Film and Television, at the School of Cinema and Television (ESCINETV) of María Cristina Capriles.
In 2012, he had the opportunity to work with Jackson Gutierrez as a Script and performing tasks as Assistant Director II, in the film COMPLOT. In 2013, it was the Script of "Z", a zombie feature film directed by Manuel Pifano; and in 2016, he served as Script Back to Life, a film written and directed by Luis Carlos and Alfredo Hueck.
At the end of that same year, she participated as Script in the sequel to the highest grossing film of Venezuelan cinema, PAPITA 2DA BASE, fulfilling the roles of Chief Editor Coordinator and Director of Postproduction. Between 2017 - 2018, I made the assembly and Postproduction Coordination of SEX AND THE FUTURE, an American comedy shot in Los Angeles, directed by Luis Carlos Hueck. Karla always stands out for her double participation in most of her works, working in filming as AD or Script, and in post-production as editor and coordinator of the same.
Reynaldo Pacheco has quickly become the most recent and promising Latin star in Hollywood. He is currently filming “Los Leones” with international star Ozuna (Lionsgate/Caribbean Cinemas). In November 2019, the epic movie “Fuertes” premiers. He is in pre-production for the biography of the communist singer Nilo Source. (Internet Press).
Pacheco has received massive critical acclaim for his touching breakthrough role in “Our Brand is Crisis”, starring opposite Sandra Bullock and Billy Bob Thornton and produced by George Clooney and Warner Brothers. Reynaldo’s past credits include a lead role in “Without Men”, opposite Eva Longoria, Kate del Castillo, and Judy Reyes. He also starred in “The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez” opposite the legendary Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine, and had a supporting role in “Beginners”, oppose Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer in Plummer’s Academy Award-winning performance.
Reynaldo Pacheco is the founder of the renowned Hollywood Academy of Performing Arts and co-founder of the non-profit production company Changing Stories. Reynaldo is also a promising music artist and will be launching his first musical single in January, 2020.
Rafael Ponce, the son of an anthropologist and sociologist, started his award-winning Producer career in 1993. Based in Miami Florida since 2016 he is an Executive Producer in his production firm El Living. El Living is a multinational production firm with more than 08 cities and was in charge of the session 4 of the acclaimed Netflix production "Money Heist" which was shot in Panama in 2019.
ANN BROWNING MASTERS
Dr. Ann Browning Masters is a founding board member of the Los Floridanos Society, a heritage association for descendants of First Spanish Period settlers in St. Augustine. She is a long-time member of the Menorcan Cultural Society, a heritage association for descendants of Italian, Greek and Menorcan (Balearic Island) settlers who arrived in St. Augustine in 1777. Her Floridano heritage began with the 1602 marriage of Elena Gonzalez and Diego Alvarez in St. Augustine. Her Menorcan heritage includes the Greek, Italian, and Menorcan family names of Cercopoly, Mabrumati, Pacetti, Canova, Rogero, and Pellicer. Her married name of Masters is an Anglicization of the Menorcan name Mestre or Maestre.
In 2015 she was knighted by the St. Augustine Easter Festival for her dedication in promoting St. Augustine's Spanish heritage. A St. Augustine heritage native, she is a 12th generation Floridian.
Dr. Masters is the author of Floridanos, Menorcans, Cattle-Whip Crackers: Poetry of St. Augustine, published by the Florida Historical Society Press. Now in its second printing, her book has been described by Florida Poet Laureate Peter Meinke as “...no better introduction to America's oldest city. These poems and commentaries are knowledgeable, eloquent and affectionate, capturing St. Augustine's history, beauty, people, and food, along with its magical ambience.” Florida poet Lola Haskins has said that “Ann Browning Masters is not only an authentic Floridian but also a talented and generous writer who can bring the many voices of our past as alive as if they were sitting on our porches beside us, right here, right now, telling us stories. Do. Not. Miss her.
Her writing from this collection has been published in anthologies and journals, read at literary and historical conferences, recognized at the Florida Folk Festival, and recorded for the Florida State Historical Archives. She continues to read from her writing on Floridanos and Menorcans in the Eckerd College Road Scholar program. She served on the Board of Directors of the St. Augustine Historical Society, and continues as a member of its Journal of History Editorial Board.
A discussion on the presence of Spain through the Floridano and Menorcan descendants still living in Florida. Additionally, she will provide the historical timelines of these two Hispanic groups; sharing from her writing some of the bold, humorous, and sometimes heart-tugging Floridano and Menorcan oral traditions.
